Department of Electric & Electronic Technologies

HOD: Prof. Dr. Sanjeev Raganathan

The Gross National Product (GNP) of a country's economy is directly linked to the level of consumption of energy. The problem is that fossil energy will become scarce and be at the centre of conflict between countries. Furthermore, fossil fuel energy is polluting and causing a change in the climate. In such circumstances, green energy will become the highest importance. No doubt that the students who will have been trained in Green Energy will be the key players of tomorrow.

Faculties

SanjayMr. Sanjay Tumati

Designation: Assistant Professor for Applied Electronics and Chip Design

"I came to Auroville to be part of this great experiment, to be inspired by people who do excellent word and lead excellent lives, including meditation. One of the excellent units I have seen in Auroville is AIAT, and when the chance came to support AIAT go from an ITI to a fully-fledged college, I was only too eager to be involved. I enjoy teaching and enjoy conversations generated by the process of teaching. It is a joy to me when students are able to grasp what I am communicating to them, when they raise questions about what they have heard, when I see students enjoying the process of learning and especially when they challenge me. Spontaneous conversations that arise out of the joy of the moment are a sign that students and teachers are actively engaged in the process and not just passively playing their roles."

Mr. Sanjay Tumati: Assistant Professor for Applied Electronics and Chip Design. He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from IIT Bombay and a master’s degree in analogue circuit design from Texas A&M University, USA. He has 20 years of practical experience in 3 different companies in 4 countries in the areas of integrated circuit design and verification and has been a consultant in the areas of application engineering, microcontroller programming and board design. Currently, in addition to teaching at AIAT, he works for Aura Semiconductors in Bangalore, volunteers a C3SLD, supervises young people in the Shifu programme and organizes
Vipassana meditation groups.

MohammedMr. Mohammed Mahommed

Designation: Assistant Professor in the Department of Green Electric and Electronics Engineering

"I have worked on several innovative projects, including a biogas oven, an electric scooter, a solar power plant, a windmill power plant, and an automatic dustbin. I have experience in syllabus development for the B.Voc program in Green Electric and Electronic Engineering and I’m also a member of the Board of Studies (BOS). I have experience with Project-Based Learning (PBL), where students create their own projects based on the syllabus, which greatly enhances their understanding. While teaching, PBL has proven to be an effective tool for fostering deeper  comprehension among students. I also received training from German volunteers through the I CAN program, which focuses on modern teaching methods. These techniques have helped me improve knowledge sharing and enhance students skills"

Mr. Mohammed Mahommed is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Green Electric and Electronics Engineering at AIAT, affiliated with Pondicherry University. He completed both his undergraduate and master’s degrees at Anna University, Chennai, and has over 10 years of teaching experience at colleges affiliated with Anna University and Pondicherry University.

Jorge

Mr Jorge Ayarza - B.Sc - Master trainer

Designation: Adjunct Faculty

Specialization: Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy

"I have been in the area of renewable energy, plastic recycling, and computer-controlled machinery industry for over 30 years, such as plastic recycling, machine design,  small hydro turbine, and small wind turbine design and manufacturing. Founder of renewable energy social enterprise in India, my teaching is mainly project-based. I love to share my mindset: "Waste are not waste anymore but opportunities" to build new products, or have new sources of energy. It is a very different way to see the world around us which makes the students much more creative and efficient."

Mr. Jorge Ayarza – B.Sc – Master trainer: Adjunct professor for the Electric and Electronics course. He has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the US and works on projects such as 3D printers for construction, upcycling, etc. He is an expert in Electrical Engineering and Renewable Energy. He built a wind generator.

Manikandan

Mr S. Manikandan - B.Tech

Designation: Senior Instructor

"Before embarking on the journey of inventing something new, it is crucial to familiarize yourself with the existing inventions and understand how they work. This will not only give you a solid foundation for your own innovations but also demonstrate the importance of studying and appreciating the developments that came before us. So let's delve into the world of existing inventions, learn from them, and be inspired to create even more remarkable ones. I approach teaching electronics with a focus on answering the "why" behind each concept and component. My classes are not just about rote memorization, but about understanding the underlying principles and applications of electronics. By asking "spark putting questions" and explaining the reasoning behind the design and function of electronic components, I aim to inspire curiosity and critical thinking in my students, helping them to build a deeper understanding of electronics that goes beyond memorization and into a true appreciation of the field."

Mr. S. Manikandan – B.Tech: He is the Electronic and Electric Lab Senior Instructor and lab charge. He has a bachelor’s degree in EEE.
